Respiratorytherapy may include treating diseases, infections, or viruses of thecardiopulmonary system, such as lung cancer, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, andpneumonia. RTs may also provide life-saving care to trauma patients.

Responsibilities will include:

– Conductingand monitoring prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
– Maintainingartificial and natural airways
– Performingpulmonary function testing
– Performinghemodynamic monitoring and other physiologic monitoring
– Documentinginformation to a patient’s medical record/maintaining accurate and completerecords
– Communicatingassessments and updates with members of the healthcare team
– Assembling,maintaining, and calibrating respiratory therapy equipment
– Identifyingand remedying respiratory care equipment malfunctions
– Communicatingwith patients and patient families
– Educatingpatients on disease prevention and lung health
– Educatingpatients on the use of inhalers and inhalation devices
– Performingtesting to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and research
