Get to know Dubai

A place with its own rhythm.

Dubai pairs the heritage of its Creek-side neighbourhoods with striking contemporary architecture, desert landscapes and beaches. Begin in Al Fahidi, where wind towers and shaded lanes recall life before the modern city, then cross Dubai Creek by abra to explore Deira’s souks. Set aside time for a skyline viewpoint, a museum or a meal by the water. Because the city is spread out, plan by area and check current transport and attraction hours before you go.

Culture & connection.

Dubai grew as a trading port on Dubai Creek, and that history remains visible in Al Fahidi, old merchant houses, wind towers and traditional markets. Emirati customs of hospitality are often expressed through Arabic coffee and dates. The city is also home to people from many countries, creating a varied food, arts and neighbourhood scene alongside local heritage.

Visitors should dress respectfully in heritage and religious settings, ask before photographing people, and be mindful of local customs during Ramadan. Many attractions and dining venues have seasonal hours, so check current information before planning a visit.

People & local life.

Arabic is the official language and English is widely used in visitor settings. Dubai’s daily life spans busy business districts, family-oriented waterfronts, traditional souks and late-opening cafés. Try Emirati dishes and regional favourites, and make time to sit by the Creek rather than seeing the city only from its towers.

Metro, tram, buses, taxis and water transport connect many popular areas. Dubai is large, so allow for travel time between districts and check the current Roads and Transport Authority routes and fares. The UAE dirham is used for everyday payments.
