Laboratory Technician I

Position Title: Laboratory Technician I – Grade 7

Primary Purpose of the Job:

Sampling /analysis of gases, high pressure gases, acid gases liquid sulphur. Carrying out physical and chemical tests on finished products or at intermediate stage and incoming feed streams, also on chemicals (DIPA, MDEA, Caustic, Acid etc.) used in the process.  Adhering to international standard methods like ASTM, UOP, IP, SMS, HACH, etc.

Principal Accountabilities:

Collecting samples using proper sampling techniques and observing safety procedures, wearing B.A. set if the situation demands it. Sampling of high pressure liquids, acid gas, sulphur, C2 rich gases, should be done with the help of Operator. Should notify Sr. Lab. Technician if anything wrong with the existing sampling point so that it can be modified or rectified by operations. Similarly, the bombs in use also should be under observation for any leakage or damaged valves and should be reported to the Sr. Lab. Technician. Disposal of samples should be done using proper safety precautions, i.e. gloves, safety goggles, face shields and safety shoes.

Sampling and Analyzing hydrocarbons in gas or liquid, toxic gases(to be carried out in fumehoods), liquefied gas products like C3, C4 and Condensate streams at various process stages – incoming feed, intermediate stage or finished products. Carries out sampling /analysis on LPG shipments, NGL condensate, NF condensate and Arab-‘D’ condensate shipment with the assistance and supervision of the Sr. Lab. Technician in coordination with operation and surveyor. Analysis of acid gas and tail gas should be done accompany with another Lab Technician by using H2S personal detector in fumehoods.

Analysis of sample of chemicals used during the treatment steps of LPG streams or offshore feed streams, Kontol, Servo, DIPA (lean, rich, tank), MDEA (lean, rich, tank), Caustic and Glycol by using lab instruments.

Analyses utility samples from desalination plant, boiler-feed water samples, lube oil seal oil samples, instrument air compressor. Equipment used are Lovibond comparator, PH conductivity meter, hydrometer, Metrohm 702 titrino, viscometers, Shaw moisture meter, Hach spectrophotometer.
