• Identification of individual endoscopes and all associated channels

• Design and function of endoscopes

• Theory on decontamination, microbiology, detergents, disinfectants and washer disinfectors (EWD’s).

• Health safety and infection control

• Knowledge and skills assessment on assembly and dismantling of scopes, pre-cleaning, leak testing, manual cleaning, reprocessing accessories and ancillary equipment, disinfection and use of the EWD’s, drying, transportation, storage, tracking/traceability and maintenance, testing and validation.

• Adhere to disinfection policy of Gastroenterology Department and manufacturer’s instructions

• Responsible for collecting patient biopsies and specimens and keeping the field sterile.

• Your job duties as an endoscopy technician will center on preparing and caring for the medical instruments and equipment used during endoscopic procedures.

• You’re also responsible for maintaining clean examination areas by setting up rooms, cleaning instruments and maintaining GI diagnostic equipment.

• Assisting physicians and nurses during exams or procedures.
