Position: – “Deputy Director of Nursing”

Job Location: Saudi Arabia

Education/Licensure

Essential: Minimum ten (10) years recent nursing experience working in a medium to large JCI Accredited Cardiac Center or healthcare facility, including five (5) years in a senior nursing management position

Essential: Bachelor Degree in Nursing

Desirable: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Health Management/Administration.

Job Summary

o Working closely with the Director of Nursing, this role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care are provided in accordance with COMPANY policies and procedures whilst also maximising the effective and efficient use of resources.

o Participates in nursing administrative cover for COMPANY including on-call arrangements and acts on behalf of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence.

o Represents the Nursing Department and COMPANY at committees, task groups and conferences as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Liaises with all medical and other COMPANY departments on behalf of the Nursing Department.

o Provides professional leadership and support for all nursing staff. Facilitates and participates in the continued development and implementation of continuous improvements. Supports the ongoing professional development of staff and provides education on management development.

o Participates in high level internal and external discussions and negotiations on behalf of the Nursing Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

o Ensures that an excellent quality of nursing care is provided to all patients in COMPANY.

o Manages the day to day nursing workforce and oversees the management of clinical areas. Ensures that the staff are trained and developed to meet the needs of the service.

o Assists the Director of Nursing in the administrative management of the Nursing Department.

o Acts as a role model in providing safe and quality patient care.

o Helps in optimizing resources to improve safety and quality of patient care.

o Assists in maintaining a high standard of nursing care, provides support and direction as necessary; identifies deficiencies and makes recommendations for improvement.

o Ensures evidence based practice is implemented and evaluated in all clinical areas.

o Ensures that established standards of care in wards are measurable and contribute to the delivery of excellent patient care.

o Provides day to day leadership and advice to Head Nurses to assist them in improving their services.

o Works with nursing and Infection Control staff to ensure that Infection Control Policies and Procedures are adhered to. Support staff in the monitoring of infection control and prevention including environmental audits.

o Liaises with external companies regarding equipment used in clinical areas and coordinates and participates in equipment trials in conjunction with the Clinical Engineering department.

o Ensures risk management is enforced and potential risks are removed or minimised. Works with other multidisciplinary departments to ensure safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

o Replaces the Director of nursing during his/her absence.

o Represents the Nursing Department on various committees.

o Working closely with the Human Resources Department, assists the Director of Nursing in the recruitment of nursing staff. Supervises the internal appointment process within the Nursing Department. Participates in candidate interviews.

o Participates in the development of nurse specialist roles as required by COMPANY.

o Conducts staff disciplinary meetings as required. Provides guidance and support to Head Nurses and Charge Nurses in conducting and documenting disciplinary meetings.

o Conducts performance evaluation sessions to review employee work performance. Participates in the review of the performance monitoring system including clinical based assessments.

o Formulates personal and departmental objectives. Participates in forward planning of projects and programs.

o Develops reports and departmental presentations as required. Monitors unit/ward monthly reports and statistics and provides guidance to Head Nurses as required.

o Analyses data and statistics making clear interpretations and recommendations for change or improvement.

o Ensures that all incidents are fully investigated and reported and that appropriate recommendations are implemented to prevent further incident.
